My Story
Keven’s Story
I am a 42 year old husband, father of four boys, a hunter and outdoor enthusiast but had previously never taken fitness seriously. That all changed when I had an opportunity to go to Alaska in pursuit of Alaskan mountain goat. My friend and Alaska resident guide said “you’d better be in good shape, because this will most likely be the toughest thing you ever do.” I had 8 months to prepare. At a routine Doctor visit I was told I had high blood pressure and I had 3 choices: medication, diet and exercise, or death. I reached out to a neighbor with a extensive background in exercise physiology about starting an exercise program. He began training me in my garage in the methods and ways of Crossfit. Simply put, he kicked my ass! Twice a week turned in to 3 days then 4 days a week. 8 months later I was 35 pounds lighter, under 15% body fat normal blood pressure, blood work my doctor described as “stellar” and now completely addicted to Crossfit. The time came to go to Alaska. What a trip! My new found general physical preparation (GPP- aka, crossfit) would be put to the test. The local weather forecast didn’t include the kind of low rain soaked clouds that would prevent our bush pilot from returning to pick us up as planned. We were stranded and forced to hike almost 14 miles with back packs approaching 100 pounds. The next day my Alaskan friend said “Keven, your in the best shape of anyone I’ve ever met from the lower 48 what gym do you belong to?” Crossfit saved my life. …I’ve never looked back, I’ve been a true Crossfit convert ever sense.
